North Korea has confirmed that it is experiencing its first Covid-19-related outbreak. On Thursday, state media reported that an infected sub-variant from the transmissible micron virus (known as BA.2) was found in Pyongyang.

The state media stated that there was a major emergency in the country. It involved a breach in our emergency quarantine system. This has been maintained safely for the last two years, three months, and February 2020.

Although the report stated that people in Pyongyang had contracted the omicron virus, it did not provide any details about cases or potential sources.

Kim Jong Un, North Korean leader, published the report at a Workers’ Party meeting in which he discussed responses to the initial coronavirus epidemic.
