© Reuters. Investing.com — Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:) said Friday that it could restart its Sturgis, Michigan plant within two weeks, pending FDA approval.
Abbott recalls three baby-formula product after receiving reports about infant illnesses, which included two deaths.
Abbott, one of America’s largest baby formula producers, has been recalled. This recall caused a shortage in baby formula supply.
According to a report from Bloomberg, during a routine visit to Abbott’s Sturgis, Michigan, manufacturing facility in September, FDA inspectors “determined that employees may have transferred contaminants including deadly cronobacter from surfaces to baby formula.”
However, Abbott has denied its formula is to blame, with the company telling Bloomberg that “There is no evidence to link our formulas to these infant illnesses.”
Abbott today stated in a statement that the FDA has made a list and it will address it to allow it to restart Sturgis’ Michigan facility.
Abbott said, “Subjected to FDA approval we could resume the site within two week.”
