(Reuters) – An interim chief executive offered to take over the organization that organizes the Golden Globe awards, according to the non-profit.
Boehly’s offer is coming a week after an alliance led by the U.S. business mogul secured a $5.2B deal to acquire Premier League soccer club Chelsea.
Eldridge Industries LLC is the LA Dodgers’ part-owner. It has a term agreement with Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This permits the association to accept other offers and offer alternatives.
The association stated in a statement that “at least one other entity” had already expressed interest in making proposals.
It said that the HFPA gives out annual Golden Globe Awards for film and television. A special committee has been formed by it to assess “potentially outside strategic interests”.
It comes as the HFPA is trying to rebuild its reputation following backlash from Hollywood over its lack of diversity and ethics. Also, NBC decided to cancel the Golden Globes ceremonies in 2022.
