HOUSTON (Reuters – Texas’ state power-grid operator called residents on Friday to decrease their electricity usage this weekend, after six generating units were shut down during a heatwave.

Six generation plants in Texas were taken offline by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, reducing available power to 2,900 megawatts. Interim CEO Brad Jones said that the grid has all available reserves generation facilities online.
