Yellen to meet Polish prime minister at start of trip to G7 finance meeting -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. Treasury secretary Janet Yellen and the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will meet Monday to talk about how Russia’s invasion in Ukraine has affected Poland’s economy. This is part of a week-long visit that will also take her to Brussels as well as a meeting of G7 finance chiefs in Germany.

Yellen said that she will express gratitude to Poland for its generosity by welcoming refugees while in Warsaw. She will also talk about the growing threat of food shortages and a global minimal tax deal which will help raise vital revenues.

On Monday, Yellen will also meet with Magdalena Rzeczkowska, Polish Finance Minister and Governor of the National Bank of Poland Adam Glapinski. Mark Brzezinski is the Polish Ambassador. During their meetings, the Treasury stated that Yellen would talk to Yellen about Russia’s invasion of Poland’s economic, including inflation and its fiscal policies and supply chains.

Yellen will also be visiting facilities for Ukrainian refugees including the World Central Kitchen that provides food for refugees. Yellen’s visit will emphasize the Treasury Department’s efforts to tackle the ongoing challenges in food security arising out of Russia’s invasion.

On Tuesday at Brussels, Yellen meets with Ursula von der Leyen, President of European Commission and U.S. According to the Treasury, Mark Gitenstein is the ambassador to the European Union.

The Treasury stated that these meetings would focus on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. This includes European energy security, Russian energy imports and Ukraine’s needs for economic assistance. They will also discuss the effects of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Yellen will make remarks at the Brussels Economic Forum 2022 regarding the war’s effect on the global economy outlook and the future for multilateralism.

Treasury stated that Yellen would work for the global recovery as well as discuss ways to put more economic pressure on Russia at the G7 central bank governors’ meeting in Bonn (Germany).

G7 is a group of wealthy industrial democracies closely aligned: Canada, Britain and France.
