WASHINGTON (Reuters), Former President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will back Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano to run for governor in the state of 2022.

Three days prior to the Republican primary election, Mastriano was endorsed. Mastriano was a Trump ally, and he had been vocal in his support for stolen-election claims.

Trump released a statement saying that no other person in Pennsylvania had done more for Election Integrity or worked harder. He is a fighter unlike any other, has supported me from the very beginning and I now have an obligation of being with him.”

Mastriano was an advocate for an investigation into 2020’s election results. Pennsylvania’s support of President Joe Biden finally sealed his win. Mastriano, the top Republican state senator, was removed from Mastriano’s state’s 2020 electoral audit. He claimed that he was more focused on politics and showmanship than an actual investigation.

Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state in which Democratic Governor Tom Wolf is not seeking reelection due term limits, will be the last stop for him. Josh Shapiro (the state’s attorney-general) is currently presumptive Democratic nomination.
