(Reuters] – The gunman attacked a Buffalo grocery-store on Saturday, claiming that a former officer was a racist.

Although authorities have yet to release the names of all the victims, local media and relatives have been able to identify some. The shooting also left three people injured. Officials said that eleven people were killed by gunfire, while two others were black. Officials did not make clear the breakdown in raciality of the victims.

Payton Gendron (18), Conklin (New York) was the suspect and surrendered to authorities on Saturday. The victims included:

Pearly Young

A reporter tweeted that Young, aged 77, ran a Central Park food pantry in Buffalo for 25-years. Madison Carter’s tweet said that Young was a missionary and grandmother who enjoyed “singing and dancing” with his family.

Ruth Whitfield

Whitfield was 86 years old and the mother of Garnell Whitfield, former Buffalo fire commissioner. According to television station WGRZ, she had been visiting her husband at a nursing home. She was returning home from work when she stopped by Tops.

Aaron Salter

Salter, a Buffalo Police Officer who retired after serving as Tops Security Guard, was reported by TV station WKBW. WKBW reports that Salter opened fire on the shooter while he was wearing body armor. He was not hurt by the blast. According to record databases, his age is 55.

Katherine Massey, “Kat”

Massey (72), was an advocate for Buffalo’s Black community, according to Buffalo News. Massey wrote many letters last year, calling for additional federal action.

Massey, according to Buffalo News was a member “We Are Women Warriors.”

Roberta Drury

Roberta Drury is 32 years old and moved to Buffalo after her bone marrow donor surgery. Amanda Drury stated that Roberta assisted him in his Bar, The Dalmatia and his Family.

Drury described Drury as “brilliant and outgoing. She could talk to anybody.”

Heyward Patterson

According to Buffalo News, Patterson was called “Jitney” as he drove shoppers to Tops’ grocery store. He also helped with the groceries. Patterson was also a deacon in the church. According to Buffalo News, Patterson’s initial name is “Haywood”, in a church directories.

Celestine Chaney

Chaney (65) went to Tops in order to purchase strawberries for shortcakes. Wayne Jones, Chaney’s son, said this to the New York Times. Jones stated that Chaney was in New York to visit her sister.

Three people were among the victims of the shooting:

Zaire Goodman (20 years old), who was working in Tops, was hit in the neck, but survived. His grandfather Charles Everheart Sr. told Reuters. Everheart stated that Goodman was pushing carts to the Tops store at the time he was injured.
