REUTERS/Elizabeth Frantz(Reuters] – U.S. Senate Republican Leadership Mitch McConnell indicated on Sunday that he anticipates Wednesday’s vote by the Senate on $40 billion in aid for Ukraine. The vote will come after a procedural vote was held Monday.
McConnell stated that “We expect to invoke cloture” – possibly by a substantial margin – on Monday’s motion for proceeding. That would give us the opportunity to approve the Supplement on Wednesday. McConnell was speaking to journalists from Stockholm, where he had visited the Ukrainian capital Saturday. This refers to the procedural “cloture”, vote which caps any further debate for a matter that has been closed down to thirty hours.
