Biden set to redeploy U.S. troops to Somalia, reversing Trump withdrawal

WASHINGTON — According to NBC News, a top administration official said that President Joe Biden had approved a plan for the redeployment of U.S. soldiers to Somalia.
In light of concerns that al-Shabab might soon be a bigger threat in the region, the former president Donald Trump reversed his order to withdraw U.S. troops from 2020.
According to the official, U.S. troops currently stationed abroad would be moving to Somalia. It wasn’t immediately known how many ground forces would be relocated to the war-torn region.
The New York Times first reported the move, cited unnamed officials saying several hundred troops would be deployed. The Times reported also that Biden signed the Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s proposal earlier in this month.
