(Reuters) – Intel Corp (NASDAQ:] Shareholders rejected compensation packages of top executives. This included a $178.6m payout to Pat Gelsinger Chief Executive Officer, according to a regulatory filing.

Intel reported that 1.78 billion votes were cast in favor of executive compensation, although the vote was not binding. In favor, there were 921.2 millions votes.

Intel released a statement saying that they take the input of investors seriously. They are also committed to meeting with them and responding to their concerns.

Although the company stated that it has taken steps to answer investor questions such as linking performance and pay, they added that “there’s clearly still more to be done”.

According to March’s regulatory filing, Gelsinger was paid more than 1,700 dollars per hour at chip giant Intel in 2021.

Intel’s second quarter revenue and profit were lower than Wall Street estimates in April. This was due to weak demand in the largest market for PCs and an increase in supply chain uncertainty as a result of new COVID-19 China lockdowns.
