Starbucks to cover employees’ travel expenses for abortions, gender-affirming surgeries

StarbucksIt will begin to cover eligible expenses for travel by employees for abortions and other gender-affirming procedures.
Coffee chain joined Amazon, Apple, MicrosoftAnd SalesforceFollowing the publication of a draft U.S. Supreme Court ruling, workers were offered reimbursements for travel expenses related abortions. strike down Roe v. WadeThe landmark 1973 decision which gave the consent to the procedure was referred to as “The Decision”. There are also large companies like WalmartAnd Disney, have overwhelmingly chosen to stay silent on the draft opinion.
Starbucks is well-known for supporting liberal causes like same-sex marriage, and hiring refugees. Transgender rights are also covered. Since 2012, the insurance company has provided coverage for gender reassignment surgery. It also covers a wider range of gender-affirming procedures like breast reductions and hair transplants.
Mid-March was the halfway point of the year when 154 state legislatures had introduced anti-trans laws. They seek to reduce access to sports and health care as well as education. according to NBC News.
If they are enrolled in Starbucks insurance, employees who seek access to abortion and gender-affirming services will be entitled for travel reimbursement if the service isn’t within 100 miles. All dependents of employees enrolled in Starbucks Health Care will be eligible for the benefit.
Starbucks representative said they are still working to determine when the benefits will be available. There are 240,000 employees in the United States.
