Lynas rare earths Ltd. (ASX) was the best performer of the session. It rose 6.56 percent or 0.58 points and traded at 9.42 by the closing. Beach Energy Ltd. (ASX) gained 6.12%, or 0.10 point to close at 1.74. Whitehaven Coal Ltd. (ASX) was also up 5.91%, or 0.29 points to 5.20 late trade.
These were the worst performers of the session. Brambles Ltd (ASX) fell by 7.59%, or 0.88 points, to close at 10.72 Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:) fell 4.60%, or 0.12 points, to finish at 2.49 Rea Group Ltd (ASX): The ASX was down 4.52% or 5.15 point to 108.72
Stocks that are rising outnumbered those in decline on the Sydney Stock Exchange were 782 to 642, and 371 ended unaffected.
Whitehaven Coal Ltd. (ASX) shares rose to new 3-year highs. This was an increase of 5.91%.

While AUD/USD was steady at 0.70 to 0.70, AUD/JPY rose by 0.79% and reached 90.74.
