MILAN (Reuters – A special administrator will be appointed by an Italian court to manage transport group Schenker Italiana SpA, after the Deutsche Bahn unit was involved in anti-Mafia investigations into one of its subcontractors. Sources said Tuesday.
A Milan court issued the order for businesses that have more than 1400 employees in Italy. It will remain in effect for one year.
A joint statement was issued by the Italian carabinieri and financial police stating that special measures will be applied to unnamed businesses. Sources familiar with the situation said Schenker Italiana was one.
We have been informed of the allegations against Schenker Italiana’s subcontractor. A spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn Schenker in Germany said that they fully supported the authorities.
Schenker Italiana has not yet responded to my request.
Sources claimed that neither Schenker Italiana’s current management nor the company were being investigated.
A police investigation began April 2020 and found business ties between a haulage firm suspected of being controlled by the Calabrian Mafia.
