It is not exaggerated to state that thousands want to work at Airbnb.

The company’s announcement of its shift to a permanent remote work model on April 28, more than 800,000 people flocked to its career page — and that interest has held steady in the weeks following the announcement, Catherine Powell, Airbnb’s global head of hosting, tells CNBC Make It

Its. new policyThe U.S.-based and Canadian salaries will now be determined by one pay tier per role, rather than location-based. Starting in September, Airbnb’s over 6,000 employees can choose to work up to 3 months per year in any of 170 countries.

But, if you want to nab a job at the booking site, you don’t need a stamped passport — instead, you should be “very curious” and eager to ask questions, according to Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky.

CNBC Make It’s Chesky has stated that while there are many qualities that we seek in our candidates, the most important is curiosity. “To innovate, you have to be very curious and you have to ask a lot of questions … you can’t presume you know the answer, and if you think you do, you have to constantly reevaluate.” 

Part of Airbnb’s mission, Powell adds, is to “build a culture of connection and belonging” — and anyone who wants to work for Airbnb needs to be open-minded and share this value.

Barbara Petitt, a career growth expert, says that curiosity is an important soft skill that will help you get ahead in today’s highly competitive work environment. 

According to her, “Your curiosity can help you find great solutions more quickly and creatively.” CNBC Make It. She suggested that curiosity can be developed by learning about a subject you’ve never studied before. 

Petitt explained that she “decided” to study more about brain function recently. Petitt explained, “I’ve read 2 books on neuroscience and have gained deep insight into new information processing.” 

Highlighting such anecdotes, or interests, on your LinkedIn profile, job application or during an interview can help you stand out to potential employers — especially Airbnb.
