U.S. officials have warned that North Korean IT workers are seeking remote jobs by concealing their identities.

U.S. agencies report that North Korean IT workers often pretend to come from Asia. They are thus able to apply for positions, particularly on platforms with high tech jobs.

Pyongyang: Raising money

The Departments of Justice, State, & the Treasury issued a joint warning to warn against the hiring of North Korean IT workers, as these people try to get jobs online in order to steal cash for Pyongyang.

An excerpt from the statement reads: “The DPRK has dispatched thousands of highly skilled IT workers around the world, earning revenue for the DPRK that contributes to its weapons programs in violation of U.S. and UN sanctions.”

The statement urges companies in the United States to treat “requests for payment in cryptocurrency” as a red flag when making new hires. Because North Koreans have the ability to use cryptocurrency to bypass sanctions.

They are not only using the money to help Pyongyang, to steal, but they also use their privilege to access information to launch intrusions.
