AmazonThe company announced Wednesday the new version of its Fire 7 tablet. The tablet costs $59.99 and has a longer battery life than the predecessor.

Amazon Fire tablets were a cheap alternative. AppleAmazon doesn’t consider it a major business sector like Apple hardware. Amazon’s hardware products are a portal into Amazon’s services ecosystem, including music and books, and the Alexa voice assistant.

Last year’s Fire 7 had poor battery life and a very blurry screen. Amazon claimed that the new Fire 7 has 40% more battery life and can be used for browsing up to 10 hours. However, it did not make any adjustments to the camera or display.

Amazon also stated that the Fire 7’s updated processor is 30% faster, which should make it more responsive. You can also expand your storage with an additional memory card. The 16GB base storage will remain, but this is likely to be sufficient for many people who are looking for a tablet that’s affordable for browsing the web and downloading movies. A dated USB-C charging port has been replaced with a moderner, more popular USB-C one.

Preorders for the new Fire 7 are now open. Shipments will start June 29. You can choose from black, denim, or rose colours, as well as coordinating covers for $28.99 each.

Amazon has also launched a Fire 7 Kids version. It ships with a child-proof case in red, purple, or blue and comes with one year of Amazon Kids+. It is available now, starting at $109.99.
