TOKYO, Reuters Toyota Motor (NYSE) Corp uses well water in its factories to prevent the effects of an industrial water shortage in central Japan, a spokesperson stated Wednesday.

Officials from the local government said that more than 130 businesses were affected by a leakage at an Aichi water facility. These establishments are factories and firms that have ties with Toyota.

According to a spokesperson, Japan’s largest automaker can continue operating as normal on Wednesday. The company will then monitor the situation closely thereafter.

Reports claimed that industrial water supply will stop at around 9:00 AM GMT (0000 GMT), Wednesday for 131 businesses located in 12 Aichi Prefectures municipalities, which includes Toyota’s headquarters.

However, supply was not stopped completely as of 11.15 a.m. according to Aichi Public Enterprise Bureau. They also told Reuters that it wasn’t clear when disruptions would be resolved.

Some factories of Toyota in the region had planned to temporarily suspend production prior to the water supply problem. This was due to parts shortages caused by the COVID-19 Shanghai lockdown.
