OTTAWA (Reuters), – Canada’s finance Minister Chrystia freeland declared Friday that in times of global volatility it is crucial to convey confidence in Canada’s central bank as well as a clear commitment towards its independence from any interference.

We all know that this is a time of extreme global volatility. We have COVID. We also have Russian invading Ukraine. “We have China’s zero COVID policy,” Freeland said to reporters following G7 meetings in Munich.

“In such an environment, responsible leadership requires reinforcing, for Canadians as well the whole world, the very clear commitment of our government to the independence of Canada’s Bank of Canada, and our faith in Canada.”
