Elon Musk to meet with Brazil’s Bolsonaro, says report -Breaking

SAO PAULO (Reuters). Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is due to meet businessman Elon Musk in Sao Paulo, according to Brazilian news agency O Globo.

According to O Globo, the two men will talk about a possible partnership in rural connectivity and monitoring deforestation.

Following a meeting in Austin (Texas) of Fabio Faria, Brazilian Communications Minister Fabio Fabio Faaria and SpaceX chief executive Tesla (NASDAQ;), the meeting took place. They discussed using SpaceX technology for internet access in rural areas and reducing illegal deforestation of the Amazon (NASDAQ;) rainforest.

O Globo reported that Friday’s meeting will be held in an exclusive hotel close to Sorocaba in Sao Paulo State. It will host several business executives including Telecom Italia (BIT:), Chief Executive Pietro Labriola, and Andre Esteves, the Chairman of Brazilian lender Banco BTG Pactual.

Musk will be meeting Brazil’s president of far-right Brazil just days after declaring on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 that he couldn’t support Democrats anymore and “will vote Republican.”

Bolsonaro celebrated Twitter’s acceptance of Musk’s first bid. He has tried for many years to bring Tesla to Brazil.

His son Eduardo Bolsonaro (congressman) stated that he met William Popp, the ex-charge d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia to talk about a plan to bring the automaker here to set up a plant. Bolsonaro expressed a desire for a Tesla factory during a trip to the U.S.
