(Reuters). Chicago Police arrested a suspect following a fatal shooting. The incident started outside a Chicago fast-food restaurant, and spread to a nearby railroad track. Authorities and local media reported on Friday.

According to authorities, at least 2 people have been killed and 10 more were hurt in gunfire that erupted Thursday night just outside McDonald’s (NYSE 🙂 near city’s Magnificent Mile. Tom Ahern of Chicago Police said that a gun was discovered at the scene.

Deonna Jackson was a witness to the attack and told the Chicago Tribune, “I saw a group teenagers fighting as I got off the train.” The teens began to rush towards me, and were all attacking one another – jumping somebody.

The authorities said that an investigation is ongoing. The victims’ names were not yet released by authorities.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, those who were injured were transported to hospitals where they are in “serious or critical” condition.

Lori Lightfoot of Chicago promised additional measures to address long-standing problems along this block.

Lightfoot previously prohibited unaccompanied minors from City’s Millennium Park on Thursday and Sunday at 6 p.m., following the tragic shooting last weekend.

Chicago is like other U.S. towns, it has experienced a spike in violent crime since the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic in 2020.
