REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration(Reuters) – Match Group Inc announced Friday that Alphabet’s Google (NASDAQ:) Inc will enable the maker of dating apps to give users a choice between payment methods, eliminating Google’s control over data.
Match sued Google May 1st, claiming that it was an “ultimate resort” to keep Tinder (and its apps) from being taken off Google Play. Match had refused to share as much as 30% of the sales and rejected sharing.
Following a few concessions, Match’s apps could not be removed from Google Play to allow for alternative payment methods. The company stated that they have withdrawn their request for a temporary restraint order against Google.
Google has not yet responded to Reuters’s request for comment.
Match filed suit against the background of several ongoing lawsuits brought by Epic Games (Fortnite) and dozens U.S. State Attorneys General in attack on Google’s anticompetitive behavior regarding the Play Store.
According to the lawsuit, Google stated that it would block some Match apps’ downloads by June 1, unless Match used Google’s shared revenue and payment system.
Match also raised concern about Apple Inc’s App Store fees, and payment policies.
Apple was also criticized for turning its App Store into an “walled garden” to collect fees from developers wanting to use the iOS ecosystem.
Google and Apple charge heavy commissions to developers. Software developers are also subject to controls, such as having them pay an amount when they use the in-app payments systems.
