(Reuters) – The United States will receive its first shipment of infant formula from Europe this weekend to alleviate a severe shortage, President Joe Biden stated on Friday. This statement came amid criticisms of his administration’s handling.

Recall by top baby formula producer on Feb. 17. Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:), during an investigation of the Food and Drug Administration has caused one the most serious food shortages in American history for U.S. family.
Biden stated this week that he is invoking Defense Production Act for increased supplies.
The Secretary of Defense has ordered the support flights for Operation Fly Formula to begin today. “Due to the urgency, these flights will consist of U.S. Military aircraft and will depart Ramstein Air Base (Germany) this weekend,” White House Communications director Kate Berner announced via Twitter.
“The flights will transport 132 pallets of Nestlé Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula to Indianapolis, IN. Berner stated that the priority was given to these formulas because they have a vital medical function and are limited in supply due to plant closing.
