BitMEX CEO Recieves 6-Months House Arrest, and Two Years Probation
    • Arthur Hayes will be sentenced for six months of house arrest
    • Hayes already has paid $10 million in penalties as part of a settlement reached with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
    • Hayes, the BitMEX cofounder, is sentenced first for violating the Bank Secrecy act.

Arthur Hayes (co-founder, and the former CEO) of BitMEX’s cryptocurrency derivatives trading platform BitMEX has been sentenced.

He was sentenced to a one-year term in federal court in Manhattan. His house arrest was not enough. He also must serve two years probation. Hayes was already fined $10 million in connection to a settlement with US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Prosecutors said that Hayes became rich through his close monitoring and study of US AML laws, as well as regulations designed to block financial institutions moving money for terrorists and criminals.
