PRAGUE (Reuters). – Badiucao, a Chinese dissident artist who is known for his support of Ukraine, has created a new piece that has been displayed in Prague. It also targets the leaders in Russia and China.

China-born political cartoonist/artist who went by a pseudonym, and which has attracted comparisons to Banksy graffiti artist, shows six paintings on Ukraine’s war entitled “The Butterfly Effect Of Kyiv” at Prague’s DOX Gallery.

There is a painting of a tank bearing the Z symbol used by Russian troops on armoured vehicles. A girl dressed in Ukrainian folk costumes puts a sunflower inside the tank’s barrel.

The portrait also includes the Chinese president Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Another piece features Xi having a baby with Putin.

Badiucao said to Reuters that the majority of work was dedicated to brave Ukrainian civilians and fighters.

“But it does point out, of course, who was responsible for this war. Who is the criminal?

These paintings form part of “MAde IN CHINA” an exhibit that also features some older Badiucao works, in which Badiucao has dealt with human rights issues in China.

Michaela Silpochova, DOX curator, stated that the Chinese Embassy in Prague has protested the exhibition of the artist who is now living in Australia.

She said that they called her directly and asked not to organize the exhibition as it would harm relations between China and Czech Republic.

An emailed inquiry for comments from the Chinese Embassy was not answered by them.

Russia claims that the invasion of Ukraine is part of a special operation to eliminate fascists in Ukraine. Kyiv and Western allies claim this assertion as a pretext for a unprovoked war.

Through Aug. 28, the “MADe in China” exhibit will be open.
