His suggestions on how to make the average person happy can fight climate change, for example, included intentionally buying climate-friendly products that are more expensive than their conventional counterparts — because as demand for those products rises, production can scale up and drive prices down for everyone else.
As green products become more popular, such as electric cars, synthetic meats or heat pumps to home heating and cooling, they will likely cost slightly more. Gates explained that buying such products will allow for scaling up, which in turn will lower the prices and reduce “green premiums”.
