(Reuters) – Elon Musk is a well-known name in Tesla (NASDAQ) and has broken many rules. However, some employees and car owners may be concerned by Musk’s recent comments about politics and a sexual harassment claim against him.

Musk denied Thursday a Business Insider report that Musk sexually harassed an attendant aboard a private plane in 2016. He called the man who claimed it a liar.

Tesla Chief Executive, during a dispute over a buy, was the day before. Twitter Inc (NYSE:) He stated that he will now vote Republican, instead of Democrat.

Tesla was also cut from the ESG Index. This was according to an executive of the index. The reason for this was due in part to claims of racism within the company, and to crashes connected to Tesla vehicles.

Musk responded to the question by calling these ratings on environmental, social, and governance issues (ESG), a “scam” and asking how an index could allow for a drop in electric car firms while simultaneously adding oil- and gas producers.

Tesla was not available for comment immediately.

Musk has been a headline-grabbing figure in the past – one time calling a critic ‘pedo guys’ on Twitter. But the recent controversies raise questions about whether Musk will lose his popularity. Musk has been so close to Tesla, it’s not hard to see how that could impact Tesla’s sales, in particular California.

According to Experian’s (OTC:), data, the state with the most left-leaning population is Tesla’s biggest market. It accounted for almost 40% of Tesla’s U.S. retail registrations. The California New Car Dealers Association reported that Tesla sales were almost 70% higher in California last year, and the state had 6.5% of all cars.

Twitter trend #BoycottTesla on Friday saw several users claim they had cancelled their orders.

He was a great person who worked hard to create a sustainable business and transform energy consumption. However, he has become a divisive, attention seeking troll who is now threatening to destroy the integrity of his company. J Yeh tweeted that she would cancel her Tesla order. J Yeh is a user on Twitter who described herself as a lawyer and has lived in many cities, including Los Angeles.

Ute Bauer (German Twitter user) said: “You have lost a customer.”

Reuters could not confirm if Tesla orders were cancelled.

Musk may be supported by many institutional investors, despite its strong performance. But that doesn’t mean all aren’t dissatisfied.

Taylor Ogan CEO, Snow Bull Capital which holds Tesla shares, said that “they’re doing lots of good things.” It is disappointing to see that it has been tainted with Elon Musk’s antics. Elon Musk has been the best and worst thing to happen to Tesla.

Unidentified Tesla worker expressed frustration at Musk’s outside efforts to hurt Tesla’s stock price. He stated that the company must do more to resolve this issue.

Tesla stock shares fell almost 9 percent on Friday. This knocked $66 billion of Tesla stock market value. It is now at its lowest point since August last year. Analysts cited “distraction risk” due to the Twitter deal. Musk promised that Tesla is always on his mind on Thursday.

John Smith, a former vice president of GM and global product planner, stated that if water cooler discussions at work were focused more on Musk’s sexual harassment claims than Tesla products, it could lead to “corrosive results” for Tesla.

Musk’s antidemocratic comments could cause Tesla and SpaceX workers to become “a bit rattled” and angry, according Jason Stomel (founder of Cadre, a tech talent agency).

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said that Musk had a solid team of SpaceX executive and the agency was enjoying a “simple partnership” with SpaceX.

Musk is still loved by many people online. User @JVega103 tweeted that he was a Republican, who had a Tesla, and signed up to Tesla solar panels. He tweeted, “Thanks for all you do.”

Some observers in the industry wondered whether Musk or Tesla would just shake off this latest controversy as they have done in the past.

Are Elon Musk and his wife now insane or crazy like a fox?” He has earned the benefit of the doubt as he is often playing chess when the rest of us are playing checkers,” Northwestern (NASDAQ:) University professor Erik Qualman said. Musk said it on “Saturday Night Live”: “What, did they think I would be normal?”
