LONDON (Reuters), -Monkeypox is not believed to have spread outside Africa. The World Health Organization believes that measures like hygiene and safety in sexual relationships will be sufficient to control it.

Richard Pebody from WHO Europe’s high-threat disease team, said in an interview that immediate supply of antivirals and vaccines is limited.

He made these comments as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that they were in the process to release some Jynneos vaccination doses for monkeypox patients.

Over 100 cases have been confirmed and are being examined by North America and Europe’s public health agencies. This is the largest outbreak of the virus since it was discovered in Africa.

He said that the primary methods to stop this outbreak include isolation and contact trace.

He stated, “We are not in a position where we can move to widespread vaccinations of populations.”

Scientists continue to try to figure out the causes of the epidemic. A senior official at U.N. said that there is no evidence of the virus having mutated.

Most of the victims in this current outbreak of monkeypox have been male sex-partners (MSM).
