Stacey Abrams wins the Democratic primary to governor of Georgia. The Republican primary for governor was not yet decided as polls close Tuesday night. NBC News forecast.

Incumbent Republican Governor. Brian Kemp won the election to win over David Perdue who was an ex-Senator from America and is backed now by President Donald Trump.

Abrams is the progressive Democrat and the GOP candidate that advances to the general electoral vote will confront the GOP candidate. Kemp narrowly defeated Abrams in 2018.

The two main candidates will contest a runoff election in June if no candidate receives a majority vote.

Trump’s fury was sparked by Kemp’s certification of President Joe Biden winning in Georgia. He became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win Georgia for decades. Trump falsely claims that the race was rigged in his favor by widespread voter fraud. Trump pushed Kemp into taking steps to overturn Georgia’s election resultsThe governor declined to allow it.

Trump also supported Rep. Jody Haice (R-Ga), who challenged Republican Secretary Brad Raffensperger in a primary contest. This was another Trump perceived enemy. Raffensperger refused Trump’s request that he “find enough votes” in Georgia to allow him to win 2020.

Perdue, Hice and others have all endorsed Trump’s claims about the election. The results of federal and state ballot reviews did not show widespread voter fraud. William Barr, Trump’s attorney general, reached the same conclusion. Trump and his associates brought dozens of lawsuits that did not change the election results in any state.

Georgia’s primary races, a swing State that narrowly voted in Biden for the 2020 Presidential Election, will also be the most significant test of Trump’s lasting influence on the Republican Party.

Trump boasted that many of his endorsed candidates in the 2022 election cycle won their primaries. However, some of these races weren’t competitive. The former president still holds his position as de facto leader in the GOP, fifteen months into his term. Many Republican candidates in the primary tried to reach the base of the party by promoting their pro-Trump credentials even though the ex-president did not endorse them.

This will be the starting point for the November midterm elections, in which Republicans seek to win the majority of Senate and House seats. Democrats are uphill. The party of the president tends to perform poorly in midterm elections. Inflation and low support ratings for Biden have been some of the factors that led to Democrats’ struggles.

This is important breaking news. Stay tuned for new updates.
