eBay unveils a NFT collection with sports themes

In collaboration with OneOf, the E-commerce company eBay (NASDAQ:), has released its first NFT collection.

Dubbed “Genesis,” the NFT collection will feature animated 3D renditions of iconic athletes featured on Sports Illustrated over the years, a Monday press release said. The collection of 13 limited-edition NFTs has been grouped into four tiers – green, gold, platinum, and diamond.

The first NFT drop is available for purchase via eBay. It features Canadian hockey legend – Wayne Gretzky. eBay has a description for the drop:

This eBay NFT collection is the first of its kind and represents a significant moment for sports fans and collectors alike. The collection commemorates the 1982 “Sportsman of The Year” Sports Illustrated cover showcasing Gretzky coming off an unprecedented third straight MVP run as the new NHL record holder for most goals in the season.

Gretzky expressed excitement about the new release in a statement. “I’m honored to bring this collectible experience to my hockey fans who have followed my career for decades,” said Gretzky in the statement.

As for the price of the NFTs, eBay noted that each piece is “priced for the everyday fan” at just $10 each. As of press time, all three tiers (gold, platinum and diamond) of the drop were sold out.

eBay has long been interested in NFT sales. NFT sales were enabled by eBay on May 20, 2021.

eBay has partnered with OneOf to make coveted NFTs easier for a new generation. This is in line with our promise to provide high-value, passionate items for the eBay seller and buyer community.
