Milady maker NFT dies: The founder is tied with a suicide Cult

Over the past few days, popular NFT avatar collection ‘Milady Maker‘ has lost a majority of its value after its founder, Charlotte Fang, admitted she was the personality behind a Twitter (NYSE:) account endorsing nazi content and extreme hate speech.

Fang announced later that she was withdrawing from NFT. However, anime-inspired collections have lost 75% of their value since Friday. They trade at approximately 0.344ETH, or $675, on OpenSea’s marketplace as of this writing.

Nazi Associations

Last year the first NFTs for the Milady Maker collection were revealed as the creation of the online collective ‘Remilia’.

Each of NFT was an avatar wearing 2000’s Tokyo street fashion, and came in different rarities. The highest tier, called “SS” raised discussion about similarities to the guard of Hitler and the nazi’s Third Reich. It seemed to be more than coincidence as some of the lower rarity avatars even wore T-shirts that included the word “Treblinka”, the name of the concentration camp built by Hitler’s nazis in occupied Poland during WWII.

However, high profile investors were attracted to the collection’s aesthetic appeal. The collection reached an unprecedented average of $6.3K and one of its avatars sold for $45,000 in April.

Tie with a Suicide Cult

Eventually, it came to light that appeared the leader and self-proclaimed CEO of Remilia was Charlotte “Charlie” Fang, who had been active on social media for some time and attracted attention of DeFillama’s analyst ‘0xngmi’ due her to ominous far-right and cult-related posts.

The personal investigation led 0xngmi to the discovery that Charlie had been hiding behind the Twitter account “Miya”, which used to share extremely racist content. This account encouraged openly the killing of Jews and the abolition of black people’s voting rights. It also alleged the disturbing views that homosexuality was a disease, and that women must be “tamed”.

Somehow, that was not the end of it, as darker revelation were made as multiple sources reported Miya’s connections with ‘SystemSpace’, an obscure suicide cult that asserts that reality is an artificial simulation, and urges people to commit suicide to get the afterlife – which they described as a cyberpunk paradise.

Born back in 2017 as an online 4chan community, the movement has been railed as an attempt to “troll people into suicide”. It was not a laughing matter, however. A 17-year-old Canadian followinger committed suicide in 2017.

Parenting

According to 0xngmi it’s not just Miya who has racist views or ties with SystemSpace.

He claims that Remilia members began following multiple teenage anorexic girls via Twitter in order to further groom them into self-harm and eating disorders.

Charlotte Fang as well the Remilia Team denied their connections. However, they tried to cover up the ties between them through an anonymous network. On Saturday, May 21, they finally admitted to the truth.

“OK, full disclosure: I was Miya”, wrote Charlotte Fang, admitting that her “toxic baggage” was hurting Milady Maker’s NFT community and that she would be stepping down from the team.

Further, she stated that Milady Maker NFT Collection remains under the direction of YOJIMBO KING, creative director Milady Sunoro and YOJIMBO KING. They are also the creators of all 10,000 NFT avatars and the Milady Maker account at OpenSea.

Milady Maker NFTs are held by 3,000 people at the time this article was written. Every hour there are numerous sales proposals, however only a small number of actual transactions have taken place. At the time of writing the average floor price for the collection was 0.27ETH ($530), and today’s total volume traded is $8.1K.
