BRUSSELS, (Reuters) – The 27 European Union members should agree on a global corporate minimum tax. This agreement must be reached by June 17th. Bruno Le Maire, the French finance minister, said Tuesday that they expect a consensus. He also added that Poland would eventually accept the new rules.

He told reporters that he was confident the minimal tax rate proposal would be approved unanimously by all members of parliament on June 17th. This is his goal, he said to an Economic and Financial Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

Poland was the last to veto a plan by the European Union to introduce the minimum tax. It had voted against a compromise reached April. This agreement, which included 137 countries, aimed to bring an end to a spiraling downward in corporate taxes rates.

It is crucial that Poland agrees to the agreement in order for it to move forward.

The next Economic and Financial Affairs Council, (Ecofin) will be held on June 17.
