Suspect in fatal NYC subway shooting of Goldman Sachs employee is in custody, police sources say

New York City Police Department has released an image that shows an unidentified person who is being sought by police in relation to the killing of a commuter on Sunday, May 22nd 2022.

The suspect was allegedly involved in the murder of Goldman Sachs employee. Police claim it was an unprovoked attack against a New York City subway train is in custody, police sources said.

Andrew Abdullah (25), surrendered after being charged with murder. NBC New York reported on Tuesday, citing three law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the case.

According to police, the suspect fired on the Manhattan-bound Q Train around 11:50 AM Sunday. It killed Daniel Enriquez, 48.

Canal Street Station officers were summoned to find Enriquez, who had a gunshot wound in his torso. According to officials, he was later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. 

Kenneth Corey of New York Police said that Enriquez was sitting in the third car when the suspect opened fire. Eyewitnesses said that Enriquez was shot by a man who was pacing the train car. However, there did not appear to have been any provocation. 

Griselda Vile, his sister, told NBC News Enriquez that Enriquez is the son of Mexican immigrants. He earned a master’s from New York University.

Covid-19 was when he began to play guitar and piano. He had just started learning Brazilian Portuguese. Vile stated that he had completed the family’s genealogy over the last 400 years.

According to Goldman Sachs, Enriquez worked in the research department since 2013.

One month later, he died. Brooklyn subway shooting that left 10 people wounded and 13 others injured in the chaos that ensued.

Frank R. James, aged 62, is accused of setting off smoke bombs that set fire to an N train approaching the 36th Street Station in Brooklyn at the beginning of the morning rush hour. 

To reduce travel safety fears, the police have been increasing their presence at railway stations.

This is just the latest of a series of notable subway attacks in this year’s calendar. The following events took place in January Michelle GoAsian American woman, Judith, was killed after she was pushed onto the subway tracks. In the following month, at least six people were stabbed in a series of attacks in the subway system over a single weekend.

Mayor Eric Adams discussed violence in a Monday news conference.

“When an incident such as this happens, it has a chilling affect,” he stated.

Adams stated that no officer was assigned to the station where the shooting happened. Adams stated that he would meet with Keechant Sewell, police commissioner to discuss police deployment.

He also stated that he would like to see technology used on subways to identify guns, but he did not specify which type.

Adams stated, “I would like to bring technology. Not metal detectors but technology that can identify a firearm.” Adams stated that he wanted to take that technology and transport it in the subway so we could identify guns.
