U.S. to allow Russian debt payment license to expire -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The United States won’t extend a waiver that allowed Russia to repay bondholders in the United States on Wednesday. This could put Moscow on the verge of default. Washington is increasing pressure after its invasion of Ukraine.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury Department stated on their website that it wouldn’t extend a license. The license was due to expire on Wednesday at 1201 EDT (0401 GMT). This would allow Russia to pay its sovereign debts to U.S. citizens.

Moscow was able to continue paying principal and interest, and avoid defaulting on its debts government.
