(Reuters: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:) asked its suppliers for speedy iPhone development in the wake of China’s COVID-19 restrictions. The delays have hampered the production schedule of at least one new iPhone, according to multiple sources.

Pegatron Corp, an iPhone manufacturer and assembler was forced to shut down operations in its Kunshan and Shanghai plants by China’s zero COVID policy.

Shanghai’s financial center remains in a state of paralysis due to the citywide lockdown. It is currently in its seventh week. Beijing has intensified quarantine efforts.

Apple predicted bigger problems in the last month, as COVID-19 lockdowns caused production to halt in China and increased demand from China. In addition, the iPhone maker was also affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The Nikkei daily reported that Apple will likely suffer from a worst-case scenario in which the initial production volume and manufacturing schedule of its new smartphones are affected.
