UVALDE (Texas) – The shooting of 19 schoolchildren and 2 teachers by a gunman in Texas was the worst U.S. school shooting incident for almost ten years. President Joe Biden urged Americans to take on the gun lobby in America and press Congress to tighten gun laws.

Officials claim that Salvador Ramos (age 18) fatally shot his grandmother Tuesday. She survived and then fled to crash his car close to Robb Elementary School, Uvalde Texas. There, he killed at least 21 others before being shot dead by police.

Officers witnessed the gunman in armor emerge from the wrecked vehicle, carrying a rifle. The motive for the attack was not clear.

Biden spoke in a nationally televised speech, raising his voice to an exclamation point. He said that “As a country, we must ask God’s Name when we are going to confront the gun lobby and when we will do what our gut tells us to do.”

Biden, a Democrat accused the gun lobby for blocking tougher gun safety laws. In observance to the tragedy, Biden ordered that flags be flown at half-staff from Saturday until sunset.

It is all too much. Without going into details, he stated that we must act.

Mass shootings are often the cause of public protests.

It houses third, fourth, and second grade students. This means that pupils could have been aged 7-10.

Hal Harrell, the school district superintendent, said to reporters that “my heart is broken today”, his voice shaking from emotion. “We’re a small community and we need your prayers to get us through this.”

Nearly 80% of the residents are Hispanic, or Latino. The community lies in the Hill Country area of Texas, approximately 80 miles (130km west) of San Antonio.

The school was secured with yellow tape by police hours later. The school was surrounded by police cars and emergency vehicles. In small groups, uniformed personnel stood with semi-automatic weapons in hand and some were wearing camouflage.

DEADLIEST SENSE 2012

This was only the latest of a number of school shootings. They have rekindled a heated debate between those advocating tighter gun regulations and those opposing any legislation that would compromise Americans’ constitutional right to bear arms.

This was the most deadly school shooting in Connecticut history. 26 victims, including 20 children were killed by a gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Democratic U.S. Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, who is a prominent advocate for legislation that would limit the proliferation of guns, said to reporters, “I don’t get why people think they’re powerless.”

It’s not an accident that the United States is the highest-income nation with the most murders and has the most relaxed gun laws. Guns flow like water in this country, you know. He said that mass shootings are common in this country.

Starting in 2020, firearms were the most common cause of death among U.S. adolescents and children, surpassing motor vehicle accidents according to a University of Michigan research note published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

On Tuesday, the horrors of Tuesday were displayed on Robb Elementary School’s Facebook (NASDAQ.) page. There was a series of posts that showed earlier this week the typical student activities: a fieldtrip to the Zoo and a Save-the-Date reminder for a showcase featuring gifted and talented students.

At 11:43 AM, Robb Elementary received a notice that stated: “Please be aware at this moment Robb Elementary is in Lockdown Status due gunshots in our area.” Students and staff are both safe within the building. The second message stated: “There’s an active shooter at Robb Elementary. The site is under the control of law enforcement. Finaly, the note advised parents to meet their children at civic center.
