LONDON (Reuters] -Volkswagen to pay 193million pounds ($242M) in an agreement with approximately 91,000 British drivers regarding a diesel emissions scandal. Therium was notified on Wednesday.

Volkswagen (ETR) is contributing to the legal fees of claimants. Volkswagen said that it has not admitted any liability, causation, or loss, but that it felt it was prudent to pursue a settlement due in part because of the high costs of London appeals and trials.

In a statement, it stated: “The Volkswagen Group is happy that we were able to resolve this long-running litigation in England & Wales.”

“The Volkswagen Group has moved on from the highly regrettable events of September 2015 to reach the settlement.

Software that reduced diesel emissions was found to be effective in reducing noxious car fumes, as well as CO2 (CO2) and other pollutants. The software has been installed on approximately 1 million vehicles around the world and about 1.2million cars in the UK.

British lawyers representing claimants claimed that VW, which was engulfed by the scandal in 2015 and lulled people into purchasing vehicles that were in violation of emissions regulations, installed “defeat device” to deceive them.

Therium started funding litigation in September 2016. This group represented more than 70,000.
