Why DeFi needs HOPR? By BTC Peers

Why DeFi should have HOPRHOPR can help you solve your data privacy problems.
Current state of DeFi
Market cap heights well above $100 billion have made the DeFi market seem endlessly creative and profitable. The recent stabilitycoin crisis, and subsequent downturn have shown us that things are not always going to be easy. There are many unsolved problems that could affect the DeFi ecosystem’s long-term stability. And there’s one which hardly anyone is talking about: privacy.
Public blockchains grant trustlessness – in contrast with centralized services, where you must trust the service provider – but this transparency brings opportunities for exploitation. DeFi is, in fact, less secure than many of the services it intends to replace.
DeFi has great potential to transform finance. It will bring many institutional processes that were previously on-chain with TradFi onto-chain. However, there are many obstacles to overcome before DeFi is fully mainstream. HOPR is a Swiss cryptocurrency privacy company that aims to address the most pressing issues facing DeFi.
DeFi’s security and privacy have been under constant scrutiny since its conception. Numerous hacks, such as those that affected Ronin sidechain and Poly Network and Wormhole crosschain bridge, cost users billions of dollars in liquidity. This further highlights the vulnerability in current DeFi infrastructure.
MEV Threat
MEV (which includes DEX arbitrage, lending protocol liquidations) has been an important issue for DeFi since its inception. MEV stands for maximum extractable value and is the process of extracting value from users through reordering or inserting transactions in blocks. Due to the open nature of transaction data, MEV is often performed on DEXes. If each transaction can be seen on the blockchain before it is finalized, users can either front-run or work with miners.
Although many steps are being taken to reduce MEV, a new breed of exploit is on the horizon: by harvesting the data exposed when connecting to decentralized DeFi services, it’s possible to predict and prepare MEV attacks before the transaction is even sent to the mempool for processing.
What does HOPR mean?
Unlike prominent DEXes such as Uniswap, which reveal sensitive information like IP addresses and wallet addresses, companies like HOPR annotate this metadata using a mixnet, similar to the TOR browser. HOPR considers protecting metadata essential to ensuring integrity in DeFi. They use the Sphinx data encryption format. HOPR’s mixnet ensures that all of the data sent through its system is indistinguishable, sending both legitimate and arbitrary data, via its unique cryptographic feature known as cover traffic.
This feature, which is incentivized by a staking mechanism, ensures that there’s a minimum level of privacy at all times for those utilizing the network.
DeFi, HOPR
HOPR isn’t concerned with privacy concerns. They focus primarily upon the positive aspects and benefits of data privacy. Without network-level privacy, many of DeFi’s promised features, including trustlessness and the elimination of intermediaries, are not possible. If HOPR becomes widely accepted, it will be a crucial support system for thousands of DeFi projects. This will allow our space to grow and flourish.
