WASHINGTON (Reuters] – BTS, K-pop’s biggest stars will visit the White House next week in order to confront hate crimes against Asians. They will also be meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden.

Biden will host the international phenomenon music group on Tuesday. It said that they would discuss Asian inclusion and representation and address anti-Asian hate crime and discrimination, which has become increasingly prominent in recent years.

South Korean boyband, made up of seven boys from the same family, are known for their popular songs and dances. They have won the IFPI Global Records Artist of Year title in February 2012 for the second year running.

This meeting takes place as the May recognition of Asian American/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander month (AANHPI Month) comes to an end amid a steep uptake in hate crimes against Asian Americans over the last year. Attacks on people of Asian descent are increasing as politicians and pundits encourage Americans, along with other tensions to point fingers at China for COVID-19.

This month, three Asian women were shot by a Dallas man. A California man is also facing charges for shooting five people at a Taiwanese American Church. Both incidents are being investigated by authorities as possible hate crimes.

K-pop star K-pop is also well known for their social campaigns and lyrics aimed at young children since they debuted in 2013.

“Biden and BTS will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS’ platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world,” the White House said in its statement.
