Joaquin Castro, a Texas Democratic Representative asked Thursday for an FBI investigation into the chronology of the massacre at Uvalde Elementary School and how the police responded. This comes amid growing controversy over the response of law enforcement officers to the incident.

“The people of Uvalde, of Texas, and of the nation deserve an accurate account of what transpired,” Castro wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray. “State officials provided contradictory accounts which were inconsistent with the ones provided by witnesses.

Castro represents San Antonio’s District, and Castro said that “your agency must make sure the American people have an accurate and thorough account of what happened.” Castro is a representative of a region less than 90 minutes from Uvalde.

A top Texas police official said that Salvador Ramos, an 18-year old rifle-toting teenager, had never encountered an armed school officer prior to he entered Robb Elementary on Tuesday morning. He then began firing an AR-15-style weapon.

Although police arrived at the school in four minutes, they waited an hour before entering the building. The Texas Department of Public Safety Regional Director Victor Escalon stated that a U.S Border Patrol tactical team arrived to kill Ramos.

Ramos, two teachers and 19 schoolchildren were among the victims.

Castro addressed Wray with a reference to several reports. These reported that “Onlookers” claimed that parents had unsuccessfully requested law enforcement entry to the school during that time. There are reports that cops prevented parents from going into the school.

“I ask the FBI to exercise its full authority and thoroughly review the legality of law and events.”
Castro wrote that Castro asked for an enforcement response to be prepared and for a transparent and complete report.
