(Reuters) – A Wisconsin election official has resigned. He claimed that he was unable to back former President Donald Trump’s fraudulent claims in relation to the 2020 Presidential election.

Wisconsin Elections Commission member Dean Knudson (a Republican) has made an announcement that creates uncertainty. The panel is planning to elect a chairperson before the November elections.

Knudson stated that it was clear to him that he cannot effectively represent Republicans on the commission at Wednesday’s meeting of the bipartisan commission. The commission oversees election in Midwestern industrial states.

Trump took Wisconsin by almost 21,000 votes in 2020. But many Republican politicians and candidates have refused acknowledge Trump’s defeat, despite several recounts and the affirmation of the results in a state audit. Numerous Republican candidates call for dissolution of the commission.

Robin Vos (Wisconsin Assembly Speaker) will select Knudson as his replacement. Vos is a Republican and ordered an investigation into the 2020 election, even though there was no evidence of fraud. Vos acknowledged, however, that Joe Biden won the state.

Vos didn’t respond immediately to my request for comment.

Trump is pushing fellow Republicans to keep challenging his defeat in 2020, even though audits, recounts, and lawsuits haven’t found any evidence of fraud.

However, he hasn’t always been successful. Georgia’s Republican primary voters rejected several prominent candidates for the nomination on Tuesday.
