(Reuters] – On Thursday, the New York Yankees (and Tampa Bay Rays) used social media to spread awareness about gun violence. They did not cover their Major League Baseball game (MLB) in the aftermath of massacres in Uvalde (Texas) and Buffalo.

On Tuesday, a gunman aged 18 stormed a Texas elementary school, killing 19 children, two teachers and threatening 10 others. The attack was just days after the shooting of 10 New Yorkers at a Buffalo grocery store.

In a statement, the Yankees stated that they will not be covering games and would work with the Tampa Bay Rays to present facts on gun violence.

“The tragic events in Uvalde and Buffalo, as well as many other places across the country are terrible tragedies.

Rays stated that shootings cannot become “normal” and pledged $50,000 to Everytown for Gun Safety.

Each team continued posting facts about gun violence via their social media pages, as well as links to resources and numbers, throughout their Thursday game. Both teams did not post the final score.

Steve Kerr was the coach for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and refused to speak about the shooting at Uvalde schools. He instead demanded stricter gun control.
