LONDON (Reuters] – A superyacht caught fire in southwest England, sending plumes of smoke into the skies and briefly allowing the vessel to escape its marina.

According to fire and police officials, the yacht was 85 feet (26 meters) long and contained approximately 8,000 litres diesel fuel. This caused local authorities and beaches nearby to be evacuated.

“Due to levels of smoke and fumes we are asking residents in the area to keep their doors and windows shut at this time,” Devon & Cornwall police said. For public safety, officers are asking the public not to enter the areas.

Police said that no one was injured by the fire, and that the yacht had been secure since it had broken free of its mooring. Police did not identify the owner of the yacht.
