(Reuters) – Ukraine has begun receiving Harpoon antiship missiles, made by Denmark, and self-propelled Howitzers manufactured in the United States. These arms will be used to support forces against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, Ukrainian Defense Minister, said Saturday.

“The coastal defence of our country will not only be strengthened by Harpoon missiles – they will be used by trained Ukrainian teams,” Reznikov wrote on his Facebook (NASDAQ:) page.

According to him, Harpoon’s shore-to-ship missiles will be used alongside Ukrainian Neptune missiles in order to protect the coast including Odesa.

Serhiy Broatchuk, the Odesa region military administration in south Ukraine spoke out saying that there were “so many Harpoons that have been turned over that we could sink the entire Russian Black Sea Fleet.” “Why not?”

After what Ukraine claimed was an anti ship missile strike, last month’s sinking of the Moskva (flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet) caused by an explosion. Moscow believes that an accidental fire started an ammunition explosion.

Reznikov stated that Ukraine has also been given a variety of heavy artillery pieces. These include modified U.S. M109 self-propelled howitzers. This will enable the Ukrainian military and civilians to hit targets at greater distances.

Oleksiy Arestovych Zelenskiy advisor, stated late Saturday that “the arms we so desperately require will most likely arrive soon.”

In mid-June there will be an NATO meeting of defence ministers in Brussels. Reznikov attended the meeting, Arestovych stated on social media TV. “If our allies in West resist delay… the situation on front will shift dramatically in our favor around June 20.”

Russia declares that its forces have launched a “special operations” in Ukraine to disarm radical anti-Russian nationalists and demilitarize the country. That is a pretext for war, according to the allies of Ukraine.
