OSLO (Reuters), -Norwegian Air announced Monday that it has purchased 50 Boeing (NYSE 🙂 737 MAX airplanes. It also has options to buy another 30.

Norwegian will now be able to fly again after it was forced to lease aircraft last year following its bankruptcy filings.

The 50 aircraft will be delivered in 2025-2028 at a time that closely matches current lease expirations. Norwegian released a statement saying that the move would lead to a modest net increase in company’s fleet.

According to the agreement, the airline will record a net gain in excess of 2 billion crowns ($212.2million), which boosts its equity.

Svein Harald Odgard, board chair, said “This landmark agreement sets out a pathway whereby Norwegian will have a large part of its fleet.”

“This will allow us to consolidate our Nordic strength by lowering all-in expenses and increasing financial resilience.
