Facebook will begin trading under ‘META’ on June 9

MetaIt is about to lose its corporate identity.

The parent company of Facebook announced TuesdayIt will also change the stock symbol of its stock to “META”, prior to June 9th market opening.

Meta rebrandedFacebook said it had been a part of their ambitions to expand beyond social media last October. Mark Zuckerberg is the CEO. He has expressed an interest in creating the metaverse. A sci-fi term, it involves working in and playing in a virtual environment.

Meta stated at the time that it was changing its stock ticker from “MVRS” to “MVRS” effective December 1. Late November saw the company announce that the move to 2022’s first quarter would be delayed.

Roundhill Investments has used “META”, the ticker, for Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETFs. It announced that it will discontinue using this ticker. relinquish that ticker symbol. This apparently allowed Meta to take it.

Meta stated that the ticker symbol changes are not subject to shareholder action.
