REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo(Reuters) – Fidelity Investments will increase its hiring in the digital assets department this year. This is as it seeks to expand its capabilities to help clients interested in investing in cryptocurrency assets that can trade around the clock.
Fidelity Digital Assets currently has nearly 200 employees. A spokesperson for the company told Reuters Tuesday that 110 positions are available in customer services, technology, and operations. They also want to focus more on bitcoin assets.
President of Fidelity Digital Assets Tom Jessop stated that “As digital assets continue to grow in demand and the market evolves,” he added.
Fidelity Investments, a major provider of retirement plans, became the first to permit individuals to use bitcoin as an investment option through their 401k plan.
The hiring news comes just weeks after cryptocurrency suffered major losses following the fall of stablecoin TerraUSD. Digital tokens called stablecoins can be compared to traditional assets in value.
Last trading was $31,594, a drop of more than half compared to its record high of $69,000 in November.
Private investments have not been discouraged by the digital currency market turmoil. Babel Finance, a Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency lender and asset manager, raised $80 million last week at a valuation of $2 billion, while Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm, raised $4.5 billion to fund its fourth cryptocurrency fund.
