(Reuters) – Gazprom, Russia’s energy giant, announced Tuesday that it had cut all gas supply to Dutch GasTerra (MCX) after the company failed to pay April gas deliveries. This is in keeping with its commitment to stop delivery of gas due to payment problems.

Russia cut gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. Finland had previously refused to pay for gas under a President Vladimir Putin order. The settlement program requires that Russian banks open rouble accounts.

Moscow has now made new demands of countries that it considers hostile. This was in response to the West’s harsh sanctions on Russia following its operation against Ukraine.

Gazprom indicated Tuesday that payments would be made according to the gas-for-roubles program.

Gazprom announced that gas deliveries from April 1 need to be paid in Russian rubles with the updated bank details. This information was promptly notified by Gazprom.

GasTerra (which buys, trades, and transports gas for the Dutch government) said that it has found alternative arrangements to pay Gazprom the estimated 2 billion cubic metres of gas by October.

GasTerra stated Monday that they had rejected the proposed new payment system. It involved creating accounts to convert euros to rubles.
