(Reuters) – BlackBerry Ltd (NYSE:) said Wednesday that they were exploring other avenues to sell their patents, as Catapult IP innovations Inc’s planned deal was taking longer than normal to close. The result was a loss of exclusivity.

An agreement was made by the Canadian company earlier in the year to sell patents related to wireless networks, mobile messaging and mobile devices for $600 millions to the special-purpose vehicle.

BlackBerry stated that Catapult was working hard to obtain the financing it needs and added that the company “looks forward to” the closing of the transaction. Catapult expected to complete the sale in Catapult’s first quarter fiscal 2023.

BlackBerry will host its annual shareholder meeting on June 22.

BlackBerry was once known for its tiny QWERTY keyboard phones and BBM instant messaging services. Today, BlackBerry is a cybersecurity company and software that automakers use.
