BEIJING (Reuters).- The Chinese military stated Wednesday it had carried out a combat “readiness Patrol” around Taiwan’s seas and airspace in recent days. This was in response to Washington and Taipei collusion.

China has increased its military presence around Taiwan over the past 2 years, claiming that Taiwan was democratically administered by it. This is in an effort to press Taipei to recognize its sovereignty claims.

China is particularly upset by the U.S.’s support of Taiwan.

Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden upset China by suggesting a shift in American strategy of “strategic uncertainty” regarding Taiwan. He said that the United States would be involved militarily if China attacked the island. According to U.S. officials, there was no alteration in the policy.

The People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theatre Command stated that the “combat readiness patrol” was an action taken against U.S. collusion.

The command stated that the United States had made a number of moves in recent times on Taiwan, including saying and doing one thing, encouraging support for Taiwan independence forces, which would push Taiwan into an unsafe situation.

According to it, Taiwan is part China’s military forces. They continue to train and plan to counter any external interference and to support Taiwan’s independence.

The statement didn’t give an exact date, but Taiwan said Monday it had experienced the most significant incursion by China’s air force since January. According to the island’s defense ministry, 30 aircraft were spotted by Taiwanese fighters as they scrambled for warning.

Taiwan complained about such missions repeatedly in its Air Defence Identification Zone (or ADIZ).

There has been no firing of shots and no Chinese aircraft were not flying in Taiwan’s airspace. They have only been operating in Taiwan’s ADIZ (a wider area Taiwan patrols and monitors) which gives it greater time to deal with any threat.

Taiwan claims that only its citizens have the power to determine the future of the island, rejecting China’s sovereignty claims.

Taiwan’s government stated that it is committed to peace and will continue its defense if needed.
