MILAN (Reuters – Italy’s Lamborghini plans to include two supersports hybrid cars into its lineup beyond 2030, according to the Volkswagen head (ETR:). This was stated in a Wednesday newspaper interview.

Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s chief executive, stated to Il Corriere della Sera in Italy that synthetic fuels will allow them to produce very little carbon.

Lamborghini struggles to find a way to convert its ranges from battery power to performance, just like Ferrari (NYSE) and McLaren.

Winkelmann explained that it is not known if enough of the fuel will be available to supply all manufacturing needs. “We require lawmakers to support us along this path.”

Synthetic fuels (also known as efuels) are currently being created in conjunction with biofuels. This allows modified versions of the combustion engine to be continued to be used, rather than switching to battery electric cars (BEV) for mass production.

Lamborghini will turn its entire line-up of hybrids between next year, 2024 and its first full-electric vehicle at the close of the decade.
